Remember, you do not have the same skills. The best choice is to select a trip commensurate to the skill of the least experienced person in the group. This way, you won't have issues with somebody holding everyone back.

Food and water are just some. You will be surrounded by water most of the time. So packing everything in waterproof containers is advised. Have extra clothes too.

Renting out the items that you need is always good choice especially if this is your first time and you are not willing to get them purchased just yet.
