The common cause of a receding hairline in men is aging. This is physiological as a result of a drop in hormonal levels as the man ages. Genetics also plays a big role in the causation of balding heads. Balding can therefore occur even among the young if they are genetically predisposed. Some men may not find it a bother because they have other remarkable features in the face that enhance the look. Unfortunately, this may not be true for every man, therefore, solutions for those not contented with their receded hairline would go a long way in keeping them happy. When looking for balding solutions for men Oklahoma residents need to know a number of things beforehand.

Miniaturization is the scientific process behind baldness. In miniaturization, the hair undergoes shrinkage every time it is acted upon by specific hormones. Shrinking results in thinning of hair. Over a long period of time, the hair thins out completely and baldness becomes the outcome. The crown of the head and the front part have a high genetic predisposition to hormone sensitivity. The hormone behind miniaturization is dihydrotestosterone, DHT. Dihydrotestosterone comes from testosterone hormone through action of the enzyme alpha reductase.

Among the key drugs utilized in treating baldness is minoxidil, a drug which was originally used in the management of high blood pressure. It was only discovered to have potential for reversing hair loss because of side effects it portrayed among patients taking it to treat hypertension. It was shown to cause massive growth of hair in all the unexpected places.

Increased blood flow stimulates the follicles to grow hair. However, hair growth is only maintained as long as the medication is judiciously used, otherwise, the hair will start thinning out again. This is because minoxidil does not really act on the underlying problem causing hair loss.

Finasteride is the other drug that is of benefit to men with alopecia (hair loss). It is primarily used for reducing the size of an abnormally large prostate. It works by inhibiting the enzyme five alpha reductase type two. This in turn results in a reduction in the amount of dihydrotestosterone and therefore minimal damage to hair follicles.

Like minoxidil, hair growth is only assured as long as the drug is used. This is because stopping it makes the enzyme active again to produce more DHT. Finasteride has no effect on the already damaged hair follicles. Needless to say, the benefits are greater when the treatment is started early on before too many follicles are affected.

Hair transplantation is a good option if one wishes to have a more permanent solution. Although it is expensive, it is highly effective in terms of ensuring good distribution of hair. It is a procedure that requires the patient to be numbed in order to minimize pain that may occur during the process.

Even though hair transplant provides a more permanent solution, it is quite expensive. In addition, it has the risk of causing infection and formation of scars on areas that have been traumatized. One can also opt to undergo laser therapy as form of treating alopecia.
