The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. But the question on many people's mind is 'why is it so popular?' or 'what makes it such a sought after procedure?'

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. Botox is a cheap and effective solution to ageing skin. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

Botox for men?

It's a mistake for people to think that the only people out there getting botox treatments are women. The facts show something else, entirely. Granted that majority of the people who undergo botox injections are women, these days' even men are undergoing these procedures. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

Trends are changing

The use of botox is rising. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This is not a shock to anyone. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

But that's not all. Not only are botox treatments used to help those who have cosmetic issues, they are used for muscle spasticity disorders as well. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. Results have been promising and outcomes have been excellent. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. Research is ongoing into looking at newer applications, and the results so far are promising.
