The world of high school football recruiting is very serious business. Colleges compete fiercely against each other to get the best players to come to their college. Fans an experts are also keenly interested in the process. Everyone wants to know where the top players are going so that they can determine which teams will remain at the top. The athletes are offered scholarships to complete a degree and join the colleges football team.

It is crucial that the colleges attract the best athletes. The Coaches are only able to develop and increase athletes performance to a limited extent, therefore they must arrive with a certain amount of talent. The better the athletes they can attract, the better their chances are of being able to win the national college championships. This gives the colleges football program a good name. The colleges that can win are the ones the best players want to go to.

While the players skill and talent are necessary and the major consideration they also must satisfy a few other criteria. They must have achieved a minimum academic level that satisfies eligibility to college. Depending on the position the player plays recruiters will also be looking for a minimum size.

The recruiters start their search on the internet. They identify the players to target from websites that show the profiles of the students and sometimes include videos of their performance. Recruiters would attend games of top performing schools. Also, athletes can contact the colleges that they are interested in and let their interest be known.

There is an umbrella organization that controls college football. It has guidelines for recruiting school athletes it also stipulates fines and penalties as punishment for not following the guidelines.

Freshmen and sophomore students are not to be contacted by recruiters but colleges can distribute camp brochures and questionnaires to them. Beginning September 1 of the school year recruiters may mail recruiting materials to students in their junior year and phone them once from April 15 to May 31. This allows colleges to introduce themselves to the student athletes without any pressure.

When the student athletes get to the senior year, colleges are permitted to contact them once per week after September 1. They may be contacted outside of high school after July 1 and before the season begins of the senior year. There may be no official visits to the school of senior athletes until after the first day of the students classes.

The most exciting day in the process for recruiters players and fans is National Signing Day which is normally at the beginning of February. This is the first time that a high school player in his senior year may sign a binding agreement to attend a particular college on a football scholarship. The college or the player may not change their minds. After this point colleges are not allowed to recruit a player who has signed the agreement called the national letter of intent. Most National Letters of Intents are signed on this date. This is the goal of high school football recruiting
