Try a little warmup first; you do not want to strain your muscles. Your warm-up weight should be light enough that you can lift it 15 to 20 times. Once you've finished your warm-up, do a set with a heavy weight. You should only be able to lift it six to eight times in succession. Add about five more pounds and repeat.

Every time you complete rep exercises, you want to count backwards instead of forward. You will be able to have an idea of what you have to do and stay motivated at doing it.

Make an appointment with your physician if you develop pain in any of your joints or start to feel fatigued. Recording any sort of pain or injury in an exercise journal can create a useful record should you need to consult a doctor.

If so, look at other choices. An alternative to the normal fitness regimes is biking. Biking offers a cheap, fun and fitness-oriented solution to your daily commute to work. Ten miles a day round trip will give you two good workouts in a single day.

Workout frequently and regularly. Exercise about 2-4 times a week, but everyday is better. Your sessions don't have to be long. Fifteen to twenty minutes a day is good. Really no more than hour at any time is sufficient. Remember that the overall quality of your workouts trumps the quantity.
