It's alarming how cases of diabetes are rapidly increasing around the world. Even children already exhibit symptoms of diabetes. Because of this the government and other concerned sectors are now pooling efforts to spread more information about the condition.

Diabetes is a condition where the body is no longer able to process blood sugar. There are usually two main reasons why this happens. First up is the problem with insulin production of the body. In the other case, the body can produce insulin but the cells are not able to properly react to it. The amount of sugar in the blood increases because the body is no longer able to convert the sugar from food into energy.

Increased blood sugar levels in the body has a lot of harmful effects. Symptoms include cuts that are slow to heal, failing vision and fatigue. If left untreated, patients may have to be amputated or could lose their vision.

None can really explain how diabetes is caused. Some believe that it's linked to diet and lifestyle but in most cases bad diet and unhealthy lifestyles are only triggers or aggravating factors. The cause is more on the physiology of a person. There are studies that link genetics to diabetes.

But regardless of the cause, what is more important right now is the prevention and treatment of diabetes. The following are some of the things you can do to control it:

1. Exercise-studies have shown how exercise was able to lower blood sugar levels. One thing's for sure, it really helps manage your weight. For those who are at high risk, exercise can really help prevent you from having diabetes. It is not just good for diabetes but for your health in general.

2. Eat healthy-fiber and whole grain are two great foods that are helpful to those who have diabetes. This may be because of its effect in your metabolism.

3. Have the right attitude-whatever your health problem is having the right attitude is always important. Not only will it help you feel better emotionally, it can also help produce hormones that keep you happy and improve your health condition at the same time.

If you feel that you exhibit symptoms of diabetes, head to your doctor right away for proper treatment.
