Nourishment and hydration are vital to cyclists and endurance athletes of all kinds, so they need to have plenty of fluids and fuel for their body. Sports drinks and energy bars crowd the shelves of health stores and convenience stores alike, but they are not all made the same. These are not as healthy as they like to claim, either, because the flavor is bad or they have unwanted chemicals. Skratch Labs, created by Dr. Allen Lim, is now offering endurance athletes, cyclists in particular, an alternative to the sugar-packed options now available.

The drinks for athletes on the market today are chock full of carbohydrates and sugars rather than healthy ingredients. Cyclists must have food and drinks that can be consumed while they are on their bicycles but that also offer nutrition, not just energy. Sadly, most of the sports drinks that are available can also affect the stomach in a very negative way, creating rot gut.

Dr. Lim wanted to offer athletes the benefits of these products without the danger of the infamous "rot gut" so many of us have experienced when ingesting large quantities of sports nutrition products. His sports drink was a brain child of trial and error and he found that using natural ingredients made it more flavorful. He finally came up with a mixture that was very light and one that cyclists started to fall in love with from day one.

This "Secret Drink Mix" was born from his labors by using real fruit flavors rather than the artificial flavors favored by virtually every other company in the business. This also means that there are no chemicals that typically upset the stomach during workouts and the energy provided was all natural. The trial period was a success and cyclists began putting his special drink into their sponsored drink bottles.

Next came a special mix of sushi rice along with other ingredients to make a power bar that was palatable while offering the necessary energy. With this success, Dr. Lim decided to go public with his creations and Skratch Labs was born. Many cyclists are now enjoying the nutritional value of the rice cakes along with the hydration offered from the sports' drink.

With the meteoric rise of his company, Dr. Lim needed to move out of his home lab and into a building that could sustain his new business. The company is currently located in Boulder, Colorado, and it is not out of the ordinary to see various cycling super stars hanging out and chatting with Lim. If you don't believe us, just take a ride by the shop next time you are in Colorado and see for yourself!
