However, John Major is Doomsday Prepper's nearest answer to Man vs. Food. Any time the dirty bombs strike, his family members will be well fed and capable to secure themselves from the radiation or just about any undesirables looking to take their products. Or else, there is always strategy B(ug).

Eating bugs

Have you ever consumed lobster? When the pilgrims first landed in New England, lobsters on the beach were avoided because they were a food for the poor. Today, they are served in high-end sea food eateries to nearly all important customers. Shrimp is a standard feature of cocktail parties just about everywhere. What exactly do all of these forms of seafood all of these share in common? All are arthropods, each are part of the same collection of animals that makes up the insect family.

The fancy term for eating insects is entomaphagy. More than 1000 types of insects are consumed in over 80% of the world's countries. People who are disgusted with this are officially in the minority. From a dietary point of view, insects are a-ok. They are an excellent source of protein, one of the most challenging macro-nutrients to safely keep for prolonged intervals. According to an investigation by the African Journal of Biotechnology, they have trace quantities of vitamin A, C and C, and also over the suggested daily allowance for phosphorus.

Seed bank

The concept of a seed bank was explored by Preston White in a previous show. Although Preston had a strange wish to collect rare seeds, John is a bit more sensible in his approach. In addition to being useful for potential crops, John considers seeds to be a fantastic form of potential currency. He could be on to something; seeds are light-weight, store for years, and they have intrinsic significance.

The idea of sprouting seeds and anticipating the results was fascinating. The nutritional facts of sprouted seeds reveals that they are a great supply of many nutrients. Sprouted wheat is a wonderful supply of B vitamins, sprouted alfafa is a good source of vitamin K, and sprouted beans are also a good source of vitamin C. All appear to be a fantastic supply of minerals like iron, selenium, copper as well as magnesium mineral.

In addition, it seems that Mr. Major is a prepper businessperson just like our friend Tim Ralston. Selling a number of of his seeds in mylar bags is an excellent technique to keep the resources coming in and can assist him with his post-collapse bartering skills.

Family Prepping

Yet again we have an example of a family who can go against society's grain and have a great time doing this. What can be more remarkable is the extreme amount of weirdness happening. In some way John makes it much easier for his family members to actually consume vermin while other preppers have to encourage their young children to leave Hurricane Street and store a few containers in the shed. If there's something that sticks out regarding the Majors it is the persistence among family members. No one would seem to be undermining the actions that they go through whether it is practice shooting or maybe fallout drills. It is about solidarity (and possibly getting the kids getting used to mealworms while they are still young).
