Liposome Allows The Best Drug Delivery Way

Liposome is designed to deliver drugs very effectively. It is made as an artificial cell, and it is useful in medicine in many different ways. There are three basic types of liposomes; MLV means multilamillar vesicle, and SUV and LUV are unilamellar vesicles, small and large ones. They have very specific spherical shape and high drug delivery efficacy. They can be designed for oral use, or in form of lotions, creams or patches. You can also inhale them in form of dry spray or nasal spray, or take them intravenously.

Medicine is not the only area where they can be used, although it might be considered as the most important one. Liposomes can be very useful in food industry, agriculture and, especially, cosmetology. They are build from natural substances, just like the real cell is, protect their contents and carry them safely to targeted destinations. High biocompatibility makes them an ideal carrier for different substances, and they improve the diffusion without causing unwanted side effects.

This tiny capsule made of phospholipids is recognized as a real cell in a blood stream, and have the ability to find targeting areas. It could be very useful for all cancer treatments, especially tumors. Tumors have different membranes than other cells, and these bubbles are designed to penetrate those membranes and deliver particular drug inside the tumor.

They can carry pieces of DNA, delivering genes to cells as well. They protect DNA from degrading processes and can be targeted to specific tissues. Thanks to their bi-layered membranes, they are able to carry both positively and negatively charged molecules. Bubbles can be hydrophilic or lipophilic, or have both characteristics, according to specific needs.

Some drugs would be more effective if carried to targeted area this way. Traditional oral capsules and pills can have problems with gastric system, and acid might destroy them partially. There are also different issues with hydrolysis and solubility. Using this type of drug carriers will significantly improve the effectiveness of different drugs and prolong the circulation time.

If different drugs are taken orally, in form of pills or capsules, the majority of contents can become destroyed by gastric system, for example. If the contents is protected by natural bubble, all ingredients stay intact, and come to their destination. This became especially interesting in dietary and nutritional supplements industry lately, because this way the level of absorption is much higher.

Dietary and nutritional supplements can be carried within these small capsules to all targeting areas. Both lipophilic and hydrophilic nutritive supplements are effectively protected within those bubbles, and gastric system cannot harm them. Capsules ensure very high level of drug absorbtion, making those nutrients much more effective.

Nano liposome is extremely small, able to penetrate targeting areas quickly and even more efficiently. Results are promising, but only for high quality products. Many factors are involved here. The technology used in the process, the quality of raw phospholipids used for production, choosing the right size foe each purpose and other elements can affect the final absorption and efficacy. All in all, liposomes will probably change the pharmaceutical industry.
