There are lots of benefits to regular exercise for seniors. When seniors are energetic, they are physical and mentally healthy and may live on their own longer. The following suggestions may help you create a safe and beneficial exercise routine and keep up with it:

1 . Increase your endurance. You can do this by going for a walk or a bike ride, both of which are good aerobic exercises to do. Seniors get a lots of benefits from swimming because it is a great workout, causes few injuries and is low impact. You should try to get half an hour of moderate aerobic workout every day.

2. Get stronger. Once we get older, we shed muscle mass, but if you perform resistance training a few times a week you can avoid this problem. You should start out slowly, doing simple exercises with light weights, and increase the weight and length of time you exercise over time. You can find courses at a senior center or you can join a health club. You can also buy weights or use things like a bag or rice or canned food and build strength at home.

3. Work on your flexibility. When you stretch, you will be much more limber and less likely to get injured. You should do this each day if possible. Do some easy aerobics and that begin stretching. Hold the stretches for 30 seconds and do it again several times. Over time, stretch further and further. You want to feel a little tension, but not pain. When you have discomfort, stop stretching and try something else that feels better.

4. Work on your balance. If you have good balance, you are less likely to slip and crack a bone. You could do Tai Chi, which is low impact helping elderly people with balance while also building strength. Just practising balancing on one foot will improve your balance.

Stay With Your Exercise Routine

1 . Keep your goals reasonable. It is a lot better to work out frequently and safely than working out hard every so often. Find motivation by setting goals you can reach. Look for methods to make exercise fit into your day including watching less tv and working out instead. You can also exercise when you are watching your television shows.

2 . Make exercise fun. Try to find ways to incorporate what you like to do into your exercise. Try taking walks with your grand kids when they are visiting instead of just utilizing the treadmill. Take a course with a friend instead of alone.

3. Come up with an alternate strategy. You won't always be able to do your own usual exercise strategy. If you are traveling, stay at hotels with a gym. If you can't go for a stroll or bike ride outside, borrow an exercise video created for elderly people from the library.
