Dog races are a fun and an easy activity for kids of all ages. This games is played by dividing participants into groups and lining the teams at the edge of the water. Each member of the team will take turns dog paddling across the pool. Whenever the participant gets to the end, they must exit the water and bark three times before the next teammate can start. The first team for all members to finish will win.

A classic water game, marco polo, is an easy one for all ages to learn. This is a version of tag that is played in water with a blinded finder. Hiders must all find a place in the water, preferably in shallow water for safety reasons. The finder must keep their eyes closed, while calling out marco and try to find hiders by following their voices when responding polo.

Pinatas can also be a great accessory to any water party. Prefill a pinata with fun water toys like goggles, squirt gun, or even sunglasses. Have an adult hang the pinata above the pool, but close enough to the edge to where participants can attempt to bust it when jumping in. Line all the kids around the water and have them take turns trying to bust it. Once the pinata is busted open, all kids can jump in after its loot.

Another classic game for older children are relay races. This is played by simply dividing the participants into teams and having the teams line up on the side of the pool. Each member of the team will jump in and swim to the other end, then the next team member will be able to jump in and do the same. The first team for all team members to finish will win.

Contests are always fun for kids and adults. Pool contests can display anything from the best cannonball to the best belly flop. Split all participants in two groups and have each group take turns being the judges. This is often an enjoyable game for everyone at the party to watch.

If the hostess is short on creativity, but high on funds, stores are filled with water games that can be purchased. Some of these games are inflatable like a basketball net or even floating golf. A tennis net can also be strung for a great game of water volleyball. Small water trinkets that sink or float can be bought for a fun treasure hunt too.

Pool party games for kids can be a cheap way to keep those summer days interesting and fun. Many of these games can also be adapted to fit your children's ages by adding or decreasing difficulty. This a fun way to provide endless entertainment without breaking the bank.
